The PYXIS 12K feels like a genuine step forward for Blackmagic. The 12K resolution is impressive on paper, but what stands out in use is the dynamic range and colour depth — it’s right up there with some of the best large-format cameras available.
The open-gate full-frame sensor gives incredible flexibility in post, whether you’re delivering for different aspect ratios or reframing for multiple outputs. The image has that clean, cinematic roll-off that’s often compared to far more expensive systems, with testing putting its dynamic range in the same conversation as the Alexa LF.
It’s built like a true production camera — modular, rugged, and adaptable to any rig. For us, this has quickly become a top choice for commercial and high-end branded work where image quality is what really matters.
